Look, it's Hellboy on Your Ciggie Pack!

I'm sure by now everybody has been properly grossed out by the new cigarette boxes.

Pictures of throat cancer victims and dead little babies are all I think about now when I see people smoking.

Now on behalf of non-smokers everywhere, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to try to curb smoking.

But by now the "horrors" of smoking are common knowledge. But people still do it anyway. It's a personal choice. So putting pictures of a dead baby on a cigarette box isn't necessarily telling people what they don't know. The only thing that changes is that they now know what a dead baby looks like.

Fact: Not a single smoker that I know has cut down on cigarettes as a result of the new campaign. And not to sound presumptuous, I'd be willing to bet that your smoker friends have not changed their smoking habits because of the new cigarette boxes.

As a non-smoker, not only do I have to contend with second-hand smoke, now I worry about losing my lunch whenever somebody wants to have a puff.

We have problems with sex and violence in our movies and TV shows. But the kind of graphic imagery involved on a cigarette box is worse than anything I've seen in a long time

Now, I don't necessarily have any alternatives to curbing the smoking problem, but I do know that certain things go beyond good taste. And the cigarette boxes are it.

Come up with a system where anybody who wants to buy cigarettes has to have clocked in a certain number of hours doing community service or something. I don't know. Just not pictures of cancer ridden feet with 3 toes.

I don't think cigarette sales have dropped. But if you're looking to start a business, I'd think cigarette case sales are on the upswing right a bout now.

Up the prices and tax on cigs is definitely one way to go. They have all the anti smoking crap on boxes here and have for yonks but the thing that really curbs smoking here seems to be 2 things:

1) Cigs are expensive
2) No smoking allowed indoors ANYWHERE

The Maccas near my house in Msia had an INDOOR SMOKING SECTION INSTALLED WTF!!!! Malaysia needs to get their game on with number 2 more than anything. Smoking in clubs - isn't that being banned now? Good start!

haha I was given the evil eye when I pointed out "What's Hellboy gotta do with cigs?"

Btw I think the effort is too direct... people just don't like being told what to do.

Those pictures are far too direct like for example if a dad tells his kid what exactly he should or shouldn't do, chances are the kid would do the opposite.

...But if the dad just laid out his thoughts partially and left the kid the space to find out the rest on his own, he may very well explore by doing his own research on the subject.

In the end he would end up doing what his dad wanted him to do, Not because he was TOLD so but because he came to that decision on his OWN.
