Tranquillité

It's about 2.32am as I write this with a bowl of cereal as a late night snack, and I'm struck by just how quiet it is right now.

I don't get many moments like this. I'm usually surrounded by sounds, voices and music (not that I'm complaining) and it gets tiresome after awhile. So for now, quiet is a welcome respite.

Back when I was in Uni and I was living on my own, I remember having to get used to things being quiet. In the beginning, coming home and hearing only silence was an unnerving experience to a 20-year-old guy who'd always been surrounded by people and the sounds they make.

Quite jarring. I had to leave the TV on. Put some music as fodder. Talk to myself (in the "I am not crazy" way) just to keep the silence bearable.

Eventually though, I grew to enjoy the quiet. And as I did so, I probably grew to be a little bit more at ease when it came to being alone with myself. And that allowed myself to just be.

I remember when I came back to Malaysia, I had an interesting time adjusting to all the noise that had suddenly returned. In fact, I used to stay up til the dead of night just to collect myself.

Today, I've come full circle. Once again I'm surrounded by the excitement of activity and all the noise it entails. And I enjoy all this tremendously, but I sometimes worry that the lessons I've learnt on being alone might be forgotten in the buzz of it all.

That's why moments of unforced quiet like these are nice. If only as a reminder that I don't have to feel lonely when I'm alone.

Ah. The Quiet. She's an acquaintance of mine. Everytime I visit her, I am reminded of how beautiful she can be.

Grar!

A week or two back, it was "Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work" Day at RedHQ.

I suppose the idea for this was to make work more cuddly and fuzzy and all sorts of cute. Now, being the anarchistic type that I am, not only did I NOT bring a bear to work, I made it my mission to hunt them down.

These bears are cunning clever creatures. With their beady eyes, fake fur and ability to find their way into the beds of little children; it was not easy tracking them down (mostly because I go to work when everybody else has gone home).

Eventually I found one. His name was Scruffy Joe. And this is what happened to him:

I caught him unawares as he was taking a mini-nap. Hmmph. Smug bears think they can sleep all over the place.

I then put the fella in a leglock. Poor guy couldn't have known that a large part of my childhood was about being trained in the fine art of watching wrestling.

Here's another shot of me abusing him for posterity.

Here's a little video of the event. Just in case those teddy bears think they can mess with me.

However, the bear eventually came clean with me. Told me that he was willing to rat the other teddies out if I let him go. So I did. And we made up.

Oh yes. We made up alright. We made up real good

Lick My Love Pump

So I've been on a bit of a Spinal Tap trip this weekend.

The movie This is Spinal Tap is probably one of those things that you need to have watched at least once, or you may find that your credibility in the realm of pop culture severely challenged. Besides, it's funny as hell and you won't regret it.

The movie is a mockumentary about a fictional band called Spinal Tap, and it's awesome. If you haven't had the chance to watch it yet, click here. The link will take you to the first of the 11 videos that the movie has been split into on Youtube.

And if you're wondering how great this band is? Well, they're good enough to jam with every bass player in the known UNIVERSE (at the same time too). Don't believe me? Watch the video. And listen to the lyrics, it's pure genius.

Going up to 11,
