It's Christmas...

... or it will be soon enough.

It's time for cheer, goodwill, and hoping for presents that you actually want.

I remember back in the day when I was a little younger (or maybe a whole lot younger. Meh), I learnt that Christmas was celebrated to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, who some people believed to be the Lord and Saviour of everybody.

It was a special day. It was like the birthday of a superhero. You'd want to celebrate that.

But then, every Christmas I'd see Santa Claus instead. He was on TV. In shopping malls. Books.
And Jesus (who's birthday we were supposed to be celebrating), was not found as often.

So being the young kid that I was, I attempted to make sense of the lunacy. And the simplest way for me was this: Jesus was Santa. And at 4 years old, this is how it went:

You see, Jesus was born. Did lots of awesome stuff to warrant a book and musical made about his life, then he was betrayed and ultimately crucified. 3 days later he rose from the dead.

Then he decides to run off to the North Pole (where they were less likely to crucify him), grew old there, and decided that instead of doing the big stuff like raising the dead and walking on water, he'd make toys for children and give it to them on his birthday because they deserved it.

Now if you think about it, it makes sense no? They had similarities. They were both benevolent people. They both had beards. And they both had GOD-like powers. Walking on water, and getting reindeer to fly you across the night are two very similar skills I would think.

But of course, now that I'm older and a little wiser, I think I know better. And kids today do as well.

Christmas is all about the presents. And Santa is a pimp.

Merry Christmas =)
